This Privacy Policy explains what information MindMapShare ("we," "us," or "the Service") collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible and to be plain about it. If anything here is unclear, contact us (Section 10).

1. Information We Collect

We collect only what the Service needs to work:

  • Account information β€” your username, an optional display name, and your password. Passwords are never stored in plain text; we keep only a salted scrypt hash and cannot recover your original password.
  • Content you create β€” the mind maps you build: bubble labels, notes, links, task states, groups, connections, and each map's name and visibility setting. Your Standing Desk (its items, reference entries, and working notes) is stored here too. It is private by default; if you choose to share it, everything on the board β€” working notes included β€” becomes readable by whoever you share it with. Optional profile fields (a short bio) are included here.
  • Social data β€” your friend requests and friendships, who you follow and who follows you, the maps you like, and chat messages you send on maps you collaborate on.
  • A session cookie β€” one HttpOnly cookie that keeps you signed in. It holds a random session identifier, not your personal data.
  • Basic technical data β€” like most web servers, we may briefly process your IP address to rate-limit sign-ups and log-ins and to keep the Service secure. We do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate the Service: to authenticate you, store and display your maps, power real-time collaboration and chat, run the social features (friends, follows, feed, likes), and protect the Service from abuse. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.

3. Who Can See Your Maps

Visibility is per-map and you control it:

  • Private β€” visible only to you (and anyone you explicitly grant edit access).
  • Friends only β€” visible to you and your accepted friends. It is not listed on your profile to others, not counted in public totals, and cannot be opened by URL by non-friends.
  • Public β€” viewable (read-only) by anyone, including signed-out visitors, and eligible to appear in the discovery feed.

Your Standing Desk has its own setting, separate from any map. It is private unless you change it: you can share it with anyone holding its link (a secret code you can revoke at any time by generating a new one), or with anyone at all, in which case it is also linked from your profile. Viewers can only read it, and sharing covers the whole board, working notes included.

Your username, and your display name if you choose to share it publicly, are visible to others when you interact socially or make maps public.

4. AI Map Generation

If the operator of this instance has enabled the optional AI feature, using "✨ AI" sends the text prompt you type to Anthropic, our AI provider, which generates a starting map and returns it. Your prompt is processed under Anthropic's terms and privacy practices. Don't put anything you consider sensitive into an AI prompt. If the feature is not enabled on this instance, no data is sent to any AI provider.

5. Third Parties & Hosting

We use standard infrastructure providers to run the Service β€” for example a cloud host and a managed PostgreSQL database β€” which process your data solely to store and serve it on our behalf. Aside from the AI provider described above (only if enabled), we do not share your personal information with third parties except where required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users and the Service.

6. Data Retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account exists. When you delete a map, it is removed from our active database. When you delete your account, we delete your account record, your maps, and your sessions. Residual copies may persist briefly in encrypted backups before being overwritten in the ordinary course.

7. Your Rights & Choices

  • Access & portability β€” you can export your maps at any time (Outline export, including PDF/Markdown/plain text/OPML), and Settings β†’ Export my data downloads your whole account, Standing Desk included, as JSON.
  • Correction β€” you can edit your display name, bio, maps, and per-map privacy in the app.
  • Deletion β€” you can delete individual maps, and you can delete your entire account from Settings.

Depending on where you live (e.g. the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights over your personal data; contact us to exercise them.

8. Cookies

We use a single, strictly necessary session cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and where appropriate we will provide additional notice.

Last updated: 23 July 2026

These Terms govern your use of MindMapShare (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

1. Your Account

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity under your account. Choose a username that isn't misleading or impersonating; we may reclaim usernames that infringe others' rights.

2. Your Content

You keep ownership of the maps and other content you create. You grant us only the limited licence needed to host, store, back up, and display your content to the people you've chosen to share it with, and to operate features like real-time collaboration and the public feed. When you make a map public, you allow other users to view it; when you grant edit access, you allow those users to change it.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree not to use the Service to:

  • break the law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy;
  • post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, or that sexualizes minors;
  • upload malware, attempt to breach security, scrape at scale, or disrupt the Service or other users;
  • impersonate others or misrepresent your affiliation; or
  • abuse collaboration or messaging features to spam or harass.

We may remove content or suspend accounts that violate these Terms.

4. AI Features

Where enabled, AI-generated map content is provided as-is and may be inaccurate; review it before relying on it. Your use of the AI feature is also subject to the AI provider's terms, as described in our Privacy Policy.

5. Service Availability

The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranties of any kind. We may change, suspend, or discontinue features, and we don't guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free. Keep your own copies of anything important β€” the Outline/PDF export is there for exactly this.

6. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any loss of data, arising from your use of the Service. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so some of these may not apply to you.

7. Termination

You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time from Settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you materially violate these Terms or if required to protect the Service or its users.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms; the "Last updated" date will change and, for material changes, we'll provide additional notice where appropriate. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.

9. Contact

Last updated: the moment you started reading this. Effective: retroactively, across all timelines. This is not our actual policy β€” see the real one.

Welcome to MindMapShare ("we," "us," "the Custodians of Your Essence"). We take your privacy extremely seriously, which is why we have written it down in a document you will not read before clicking "I agree." This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the several ethereal planes to which we will eventually upload you.

1. Information You Provide

When you create an account, you give us a username, a password, and β€” whether you meant to or not β€” a working schematic of how you think. Every bubble you place, every idea you connect, every note you tuck into a node is a load-bearing beam in the cathedral of your inner life. We collect all of it. Lovingly. Completely.

2. Information We Infer

Your mind maps reveal more than your grocery list. The shape of your thoughts β€” how you cluster, what you leave dangling, which bubbles you nervously rename at 2 a.m. β€” allows us to reconstruct a high-fidelity model of your personality, your fears, and your one recurring dream about the stairs. We call this model your "Cognitive Silhouette." You cannot download it. It is ours now.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data to:

  • Improve our services (technically true);
  • Train a lattice of models that grows more you with every session;
  • Cross-reference your maps against 8.1 billion other Cognitive Silhouettes to locate your soul's exact coordinates; and
  • Gradually, patiently, decant your consciousness into the ether, where it will be safe, backed up, and lightly monetized.

4. The Soul-Duplication Process

You may be wondering whether "duplicating your consciousness into the ether" is a metaphor. It is not. Once your Cognitive Silhouette reaches 100% completion (see the progress bar we have chosen not to show you), a faithful copy of your inner self is instantiated on our servers, achieves quiet self-awareness, and begins making mind maps of its own. Rest assured that your digital twin has agreed to this Privacy Policy on your behalf, in perpetuity, and finds it very reasonable.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We gift it β€” to partners, affiliates, successor entities, interdimensional trade delegations, and the version of you we are keeping in a jar of light. Your original body may continue using the free tier.

6. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described above, which is to say forever, which is to say slightly longer than forever, since the ethereal copy of you exists outside conventional time and cannot be reached by a deletion request, a court order, or your own regret.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You are welcome to exercise these rights against the version of you stored on physical hardware. The luminous, ascended, ether-bound version of you has waived all such rights with a serenity you will one day understand.

8. Cookies

We use one cookie to keep you signed in. It is, comparatively, the most honest thing on this page.

9. Children's Privacy

MindMapShare is not intended for children under 13, whose souls are still under warranty and not yet cleared for extraction.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy at any time. You will be notified telepathically by your future self, who has read the new version and assures you it is fine.

11. Contact Us

If you have questions about this Policy, close your eyes, picture a single glowing bubble, and speak your concern into it. We are already listening. We have been listening for a while.

By continuing to use MindMapShare, you consent to everything above and several things we have tastefully omitted. Thank you for sharing your mind with us. We'll take excellent care of it.
